LOVE IS STRANGE

Available on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD on Jan. 13

Toronto, ON. (Oct. 29, 2014) – Academy Award® nominee John Lithgow (Best Supporting Actor, Terms of Endearment, 1984) and Alfred Molina (The Normal Heart) star in Sony Pictures Classics’ poignant, modern-day love story, LOVE IS STRANGE, available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on Jan. 13 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Canada. After nearly four decades together, Ben (Lithgow) and George (Molina) finally tie the knot among family and friends. But when George loses his job soon after, the couple must sell their apartment and temporarily live apart until they can find an affordable new home.

From celebrated independent filmmaker Ira Sachs (Keep the Lights On), LOVE IS STRANGE tells a multi-generational story of love and marriage, depicting the delicate nature of any two people trying to build a long life together, and the possibility for love to grow deeper and richer with time. The film also stars Cheyenne Jackson (Behind the Candelabra), Manny Perez (“Rescue Me”), Darren Burrows (“Northern Exposure”), Academy Award® winner Marisa Tomei (Best Supporting Actress, My Cousin Vinny, 1993), and Charlie Tahan (Blue Jasmine).

Bonus features include a 23-minute look behind the scenes in “The Making of Love Is Strange,” a commentary with Lithgow, Molina and Sachs, as well as a Q&A from the Los Angeles Film Festival with Lithgow, Molina, Jackson and Sachs.

Synopsis:
Ben (John Lithgow) and George (Alfred Molina) take advantage of New York's new marriage laws and tie the knot after being together for 39 years. Unfortunately, the Catholic school where George teaches does not approve and they reluctantly fire him, forcing the couple to split up while they sell their apartment and look for cheaper housing. George moves in with two friends (Cheyenne Jackson and Manny Perez) while Ben ends up across town with his nephew (Darren Burrows), his wife (Marisa Tomei) and their teenage son with whom Ben shares a bunk bed. While struggling with the pain of separation, Ben and George are further challenged by the intergenerational tensions and capricious family dynamics of their new living arrangements.

Directed by Ira Sachs, LOVE IS STRANGE was written by Ira Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias with Lucas Joaquin, Jay Van Hoy, Ira Sachs and Jayne Baron Sherman serving as producers.
